Oly 50mm f1.8 is sharp, and tak sharp little stopped down. Olympus 50mm f1.4 is soft wide open, (I consider softer than Tak or may be similar) but very creamy/nice bokeh & nice colors. No doubt, If I have to choose one lens out of these 4, I will jump on Planar 50mm f1.7 (difficult to think of a lens better than this). I have Olympus 50mm f1.4 as well as Olympus 50mm f1.8 (as well as Planar 50mm f1.7). oh, I am quite sure that a Zeiss Planar will give you not only different color and bokeh but more sharpness too!īallu wrote: Never used Planar Planar 50/1.4. It's not as sharp as the Zeiss, and the f1.2 doesn't make much difference in practice - but it gives me the softness I often want. I much prefer the Zeiss 50/1.4 - but I probably use the Olympus 55/1.2 (which can be had for similar money to the Zeiss) the most. I never had much luck with the Oly 50/1.4 although I found it better at short to middle ranges (under 3m). Still there while reader not open, normal behavior. Sony NEX-7 Carl Zeiss Planar 85mm f1.4, Minolta MD 35mm f1.8, Konica 135mm f2.5, Minolta MD 50mm f1.2, Minolta MD 250mm f5.6, Carl Zeiss Sonnar 180mm f2.8 Hope this is was a good bid, I've bought it for 40 bucks and from the pictures seemed to be in a good shape.Attila wrote: still there while reader not open, normal behavior. Now that I read your comment Looydy, I think I'll love the fifty too! Not fast yes, nonetheless it seems it's performing great even at 3.5! Then I thought, well at this point why not the 50? I've received my 28 f/3.8 last week (couldn't test it out properly yet), but from what I've seen after the first tests it might easily become one of my favorites. My G Zuiko 50 / 1.4 is a wonderful lens, out of a lot of 50's that I've got it's probably one of the best.

I have loads of stuff that I have to get rid of, if you see me commenting about something I have got and you want one, ask me.

I guess the yellow thing comes from the fact that if you look at the lens at an angle the coating has this yellowish tinge (as opposed to purple on later lenses) and someone got that confused with yellowing of the glass like the one takumars are infamous for. Gardener wrote: Neither, not yellow, and not radioactive. I have all three kinds: silver and black nose G.Zuikos and Zuiko, and they are not all that different in most situations, and when they are, I suspect it is due to copy variation.Īlso interesting about the yellowish thing, so you're saying is not gonna be yellowish even thought it might be radioactive, or is not radioactive at all? Sorry, a little confused there The difference is not that large, perhaps with newer lens you'll get a slightly better contrast OOC (as irrelevant as it is nowadays), may be slightly lower propensity flare.
#OLYMPUS 50MM 1 4 SILVER NOSE SERIAL#
In fact, some people totally obsess over getting a Zuiko, not G.Zuiko and a serial # over 1,000,000. For the 50/1.4 it is mostly obvious in updated coatings. Olympus continuously tinkered with lens design during their life cycle. If it's a good lens, I'd like to hear your thoughts, if you think I should definitely fix the yellowish tint or I can get away with that. so, I guess kinda yellowish tint, is that correct?Īs for the radioactive thing I'm gathering info (I guess it's nothing more than what we already experience every day). I heard the silver one might be radioactive. I've just bought a Zuiko 50mm 1.4 with the silver nose.Īre there big differences compared to the regular/black nose?
